Getting Started at CSU

Steps to Getting Started

Step One:

Apply for admissions at Colorado State University

Step Two:

Get started using your VA Educational Benefits

New students are those who have not used VA benefits before at any institution of higher education. To apply for benefits you will need to complete the appropriate VA application and submit it along with the required supporting documentation directly to the VA using the VONAPP website at www.gibill.va.gov

Or, complete and submit the appropriate VA application and provide supporting documents by mail:

Department of Veterans Affairs
PO Box 66830
St. Louis, MO 63166-6830

Once you have submitted the application and supporting documentation contact the CSU Veterans Benefits Office for assistance.

If benefits were received at a different institution prior to admission at CSU fill out a 22-1995 (Change of Place of Training Form).  Send a copy of this form to the CSU VA Certifying Official.

Step Five:

Meet with a CSU Academic Advisor within your major.

Using benefits to cover courses taken simultaneously at other institutions as a Degree Partner student or other status: If you are receiving benefits through CSU, we are your parent school. The other institution needs approval from the Veterans' Certifying Official at CSU allowing them to certify your courses at their institution.

Contact your CSU advisor to get approval for the courses you plan to take in the following term.

You will need to fill out the CSU Supplemental Enrollment Information Form, have it signed and dated by your academic advisor and return it to the CSU Veterans Benefits Office.

Step Six:

Talk with a Veteran Career Counselor.

CSU would like to encourage you to meet with a Veteran Career Counselor to discuss your career goals, look at the job market and discuss options on completing a career exploration assessment.  To sign up for Veteran Success Services and to set up an appointment e-mail Adult Learner and Veteran Services.

Step Seven:

Utilize your VA Education Benefits

Consult with a CSU Veterans Educational Benefits specialist to determine which benefit you may be eligible for and which one is the best option for you to use.
