Mathematics Requirement

Students must earn three credits of Mathematics to complete the All-University Core Curriculum (AUCC) Category 1B (see the General Catalog for more information). Students (except first semester transfer and readmitted students) who have earned 60 or more CSU and transfer credits and who have not completed these three credits of Math will have a hold placed against their registration.

Students will be warned by email each term prior to Registration that they need to complete the Mathematics requirement if they have not already done so. When a student has earned 60 or more credits the email will include notification of the hold and information on how to remove it.

To remove a Math Hold the student must take or have taken the Math Placement Exam (MPE). If a student has not taken this exam they can find information about it and preparation materials on the Math Department’s website. Once a student knows their results they should use the Class Schedule to select the appropriate Math course(s) they will need to take. They will then need to contact the Registrar’s Office at registrarsoffice@colostate.edu, (970)491-4860, or in person in person at Centennial Hall to be registered for the selected Math course(s) and have the hold removed.

If a student receives a Math Hold, they must complete the required Math during the term that the hold was in effect for. If a student drops or withdraws from the Math course(s) they were registered for, they will be re-registered for the course(s) and assigned a grade of “F”. In addition to this, a Math hold will be placed against their registration for the next term.
