Apostille Request

An entity in another country may require that a diploma or transcript be "authenticated" or "certified". This involves a special process referred to as an "apostille". The purpose of an apostille is to verify that the Colorado State University official whose signature appears on a notarized document is in good standing and has signed properly in accordance with the regulations of the Colorado Secretary of State.

If an apostille is needed for a diploma, a diploma reprint will first need to be ordered. Fill out and submit the Diploma Request Form. The form must be faxed, mailed, sent as an e-mail attachment or delivered in person to the Registrar's Office. A charge of $35 (payable to Colorado State University by Visa, MasterCard or check) will cover the cost of the diploma reprint. A fee of $25 is charged for the preparation of the notarized documentation necessary for the apostille process.

If an apostille is needed for a transcript, please place an order for an official transcript through RAMweb (current students) or RAMrecords (alumni). When placing the transcript order, select "Student Pick-up (Next Day)". Be sure to check the associated box in the Apostille Items section of the Diploma Request Form.

Both the diploma/transcript and notarized documentation are sent to the Colorado Secretary of State's office in Denver where the actual apostille is prepared. Their office requires a separate check or money order (payable to the Colorado Secretary of State) for each apostille that is requested. Refer to www.sos.state.co.us, see Apostilles and Authentications under Business & Licensing on the main web page, for updates on their latest fee schedule. This payment is to be sent to the Registrar's Office so it may be included with the documents sent to the Secretary of State. It is permissible for another person to submit this fee to our office on your behalf.

The Secretary of State's office does offer an option for a customer to hand deliver the notarized documentation from the Registrar's Office and request an apostille on a walk-in basis ("Expedited Service"). Current charges for this service may be found on www.sos.state.co.us.

Please allow a three-week turn around for the apostille process to be completed. Mail delivery to an international address is customarily by First-Class mail, but you may choose UPS Worldwide Express for an additional fee (select this option on the Diploma Request Form). Delivery for this service is approximately 3-5 business days. UPS Worldwide Express does not deliver to a P.O. Box (with the exception of the country of Qatar.)

Additional mailing options are available (refer to the Diploma Request Form for details).
